About the Film

Poster
There are currently over 12 million people living in Germany who do not hold German citizenship, including 1.5 million who do not have a German passport even though they were born here. The short film “The Right to Have Rights” encourages viewers to reflect on the meaning of citizenship, statelessness, and life with a temporary residence permit. It highlights the struggles of refugee and non-refugee migrant women, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BPoC), and/or Romani and Sinti individuals as they fight for equal rights in Germany, and explores how we can work together to build a society where the right to rights is fully upheld. It was created as part of the “Pass(t) uns allen” campaign by With Wings and Roots e.V. and RomaniPhen e.V.
